VP Software Job Position

CDSI is a relatively new small business that has already provided leadership in digital beamforming technologies and radar/telemetry simulation environments. We are looking for someone to lead and grow our software development team. We develop ground-breaking 'first-of-its-kind' products that have ranged from complete phased-array antenna systems, radar calibration tools, application modeling, and data visualization. Our customers include the US Army and Air Force, NASA, and NOAA.

Description

The ideal candidate will draw upon extensive experience to plan and direct all CDSI software activities. This person must demonstrate expertise in a wide variety of topics related to modern-day software development Best Practices.

Our environment provides unique challenges and opportunities to develop skills in many areas related to software development; such as advanced hardware interaction (requiring near real-time response), sophisticated data manipulation using map/reduce, MVC style UI's, NoSQL, ORM's, and Web 2.0 toolkits like Django and Rails.

This candidate will lead and grow a team to improve our current software activities, develop a more flexible and extensible architecture and framework for adding features, and automate many of our software processes, e.g., testing. A wide degree of creativity and latitude can be expected.

This position is located in Van Nuys, CA, and reports directly to the CEO.

Tasks

Work closely with customers and senior scientists to create software product requirements and resource planning with established and evolving procedures. Provide architectural direction and cohesion across all products. Provide company-wide software leadership and mentorship. Lead Open-Source philosophy and Test-Driven Development best practices, including Rapid Application Development.

Lead software/architecture communications with customers to provide status updates, and gather feedback for future features. Plan development and production releases.

Improve industry credibility of CDSI software through various speaking engagements, and other networking activities.

Requirements

• At least 10 years software development experience: team-driven and products with multi-year life spans.
• Extensive hands-on experience with GNU/Linux and Open-Source Development Practices
• Experience in building and leading software teams
• Ability to communicate complex software concepts to non-software teams
• Ability to work under ITAR and other similar restrictions as dictated by the US government
• US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status

Desired

• Advanced degree in Science or Engineering
• Extensive hands-on experience with C, Java, Python, Scipy and Numpy.
• Understanding of Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or Electronics
• Familiarity with tools such as Matlab
